Unemployment During COVID-19 Pandemic

The CARES Act went into effect, March 27,2020.  The CARES Act changes the landscape of unemployment compensation in our country.  The changes that will have the biggest impact in Minnesota for unemployment are three things. Firstly, the CARES Act expands coverage for individuals that are not typically eligible for unemployment benefits through December 31, 2020.  Secondly, the CARES Act extends benefits from 26 to 39 weeks through December 31,2020.  Thirdly, the act also provides an additional federally funded supplement of $600.00 per week through July 31, 2020.  Attorney Kelly Dohm explains the benefits of the CARES Act during this interview on KDUZ 1260 AM’s show “Legal Update.”
